Mount Cook Cyling and Mountain Biking

Love Cycling? Love Mountain Biking? Then the Mt Cook region has everything you desire, and more!

The Aoraki Mt Cook region is famous for its phenomenal mountain and lake views, and its awesome adventure activities. The region is now offering more for cyclists and mountain bikers with the new Alps 2 Ocean Cycleway.

For Cyclists and Trail Bikers

I recommend the scenic cycle along State Highway 80 from Aoraki Mt Cook Village to Glentanner (24km). At Glentanner you can stay and relax, enjoy the activities and scenery and then take a purposely designed chopper ride (including your bike!) to Braemar Station to meet up with the Alps to Ocean Cycle Trail. Glentanner Park Centre is a great place to stay, and has storage space for your bikes.

The Alps to Ocean Cycle Trail is currently under development with many great parts ready to go! Eventually the trail will start in Aoraki Mt Cook village and finish in the seaside town of Oamaru. Of course it is up to you which parts you would like to do.

Currently, I recommend continuing on from Braemar Station, from here you will cycle along the new and exceptional trail which takes you around the top of Lake Pukaki, and then onto Twizel (45km).

What a great way to enjoy the Mt Cook region!

For more information on the Alps 2 Ocean Cycleway please visit the cycle page on our website, and the NZ Cycle Trail website.

For Mountain Bikers

Glentanner Station is 45,000 acres of high country farm land. If you are staying at Glentanner Park (Mount Cook's holiday park, flightseeing and activity centre) then you can ask for permission in advance to explore by bike the varied terrain of the station. As you can see by the photos, you will be in awe of Aoraki Mt Cook and the rest of the scenery around you.

Glentanner Park Centre has storing space for bikes, so no need to worry about that!

Happy Pedalling!
