Glentanner Horse Trekking Rears Up for the Summer

Yesterday, Tuesday 22nd November, Glentanner Horse trekking began for the summer season. The first trek was a tremendous 3 hour trek up to the top of Glentanner Station. The rider, who was holidaying in New Zealand for 3 weeks with her husband, was amazed at the phenomenal scenery and landscapes.

Glentanner Horse Trekking operates November to April each year, with the option of a 1/2 hr, 1, 2 or 3 hour treks. You will wind up the glorious Glentanner Station hills where you will have magical views of Lake Pukaki, Aoraki Mt Cook and the surrounding Southern Alps.

This year we have an extra lovely horse trek guide, Jenny. Jenny is from Northern Germany and has been in NZ for 3 months. She is passionate about horses, and has been riding for 15 years (3/4 of her life!). Jenny's other interests are music, books and meeting new people. Welcome Jenny.

Glentanner is now a 'Cycle Hub'

Cycling in and around New Zealand is growing in popularity, and already parts of the Alps to Ocean Cycleway are open! The Alps to Ocean Cycleway runs from Aoraki Mt Cook Village to Oamaru.

Glentanner is a great stop for cyclists with budget accommodation, fantastic facilities, great views and activities, and refreshments! Glentanner is now even more cyclist friendly - we are a Holiday Park Association of New Zealand Cycle Hub!

To be a Cycle Hub we must (and we do!) provide the following:

1. Secure covered cycle storage
2. Cycle cleaning area
3. Information and maps on local cycling options
4. Access to a cycle technician (may be located in the closest town - Twizel).

We look forward to welcoming many more cyclists to Glentanner Park, be safe on the roads!

The Politically Incorrect Guide to Grown-Ups

Yesterday (Tuesday 20th September) Nigel Latta had a great day at Glentanner, enjoying a delicious country style Glentanner lunch up in the snow!

The Helicopter Line Pilot Troy Feck flew him and his crew up onto the Richardson Glacier for filming of his new up and coming TV programme "The Politically Incorrect Guide to Grown-Ups"

Nigel originally from Oamaru, is a New Zealand psychologist, famous as the host of the TV show Beyond The Darklands, The Politically Incorrect Guide to Teenagers and The Politically Incorrect Parenting Show.

Nigel was blown away with the beauty of Glentanner and the Aoraki Mt Cook region. He wants to bring his family down to experience it sometime. We are looking forward to that!

He really wanted to be able to build a snow cave while he was up there but time did not allow. Of course he has a great sense of humour so The Helicopter Line Staff had a good joke about him and the crew snuggling up in the cave to keep warm!

Cessna 180 and 185 'Fly In'

Last weekend, the 2nd and 3rd of July as most of New Zealand were enjoying the warm weather, there was a group of Cessna Plane enthusiasts who were even more thrilled with the unseasonably warm and sunny conditions.

Glentanner Park Centre held, the now annual, Cessna 180 and 185 ‘Fly in’. Pilots and their mates or partners landed at Glentanner for the weekend, and enjoyed an action packed few days.

They all made the most of the fantastic facilities at Glentanner Park which includes a 1km long sealed runway, licensed café and cabin accommodation. Not to mention the close proximity to Aoraki Mount Cook – particularly in flying Time! “The event of was a real success, everyone had so much fun and the weather was superb” said Fly in orgraniser Tony Delaney.

After a fantastic flight over to Black Forest with packed lunches, the group enjoyed a delightful evening which included a Mid Winter Christmas Dinner with roast beef and pork, salmon, roast veges, hot soup and a selection of canapés. The biggest hit though was the mulled wine!

Glentanner Park Centre staff also had a great time, and enjoyed the company of their guests. “It was great to have such a fun group in, especially at this time of year when we are generally quiet – a perfect opportunity for groups to make the most of our facilities” said Glentanner Park Accommodation Manager Viv Arthur.
